A new security vulnerability has been discovered in Apple's Mac and MacBook computers - and the worst part is that it's unpatchable. Academic researchers discovered the vulnerability, first reported by Ars Technica, which allows hackers to gain access to secret encryption keys on Apple computers with Apple's new Silicon M-Series chipset. This includes the M1, M2, and M3 Apple MacBook and Mac computer models. Basically, the researchers discovered that the DMPs in Apple's Silicon chipsets - M1, M2 and, M3 - can give hackers access to sensitive information, like secret encryption keys. The DMPs can be weaponized to get around security found in cryptography apps, and they can do so quickly too. For example, the researchers were able to extract an 2048-bit RSA key in under one hour. Usually, when a security flaw is discovered nowadays, a company can patch the issue with a software fix. However, the researchers say this one is unpatchable because the issue lies with the "microarchitectural" design of the chip. Furthermore, security measures taken to help mitigate the issue would require a serious degradation of the M-series chips' performance. Researchers say that they first brought their findings to Apple's attention on December 5, 2023. They waited 107 days before disclosing their research to the public.

Craig is talking about the European DMA as if Apple hasn't already bent to it, as they should. Except the part where they aren't complying clearly isn't to protect consumers, but to protect themselves : they allow anyone to create an external app store except that developers need to pay a fee to Apple FOR THAT EXTERNAL APP STORE, which in the end costs as much as Apple's App Store. And that's a big FU that Apple unequivocably has sent to the EU, in what can only be called a delirious decision. Maybe they were thinking they can win against the EU or that they are in a position to teach lessons, but they are not. And now Apple will pay maybe billions because they didn't play by the rules, not to protect consumers as they keep on saying, but to protect their revenues.

The interesting feature about Apple Intelligence is that it is APPLE controlling everything. They stated that they are not going to allow certain things so essentially they are going to censor, by their standards, their AI. Isn’t that against the 1st Amendment? I’m Australian so I don’t like Apple telling me what I can and can’t do on the device I have paid for - so they are putting a lot more bricks on their walled garden.

If it would slow older devices down if you run AI on them, why not leverage Apple Cloud Compute to offset this limitation instead? This would massively democratize AI across the Apple user base.

Apple is just as guilty as Microsoft. They steal customer data and use it for nefarious purposes but Apple's marketing department has created a literal CULT of customers with rose colored glasses that refuse to acknowledge or accept that their "brand" is no different (and no better). For all the talk Apple gives about valuing user privacy, they are just as guilty (and just as complicit). Don't believe me? Google "apple privacy lies". I dare you to.

I want to run some desktop apps on the iPad, even if they have to be vetted though the App Store. I can run some iPad apps on my MacBook and I want the reverse as some developers will never develop an iPad app but could easily run on the iPad if just had a bit more touch interface that could be done automatically. I don't want full OS just the ability to use some apps between both systems

I don't get all the John hate here. I think he does a great job with these interviews. He's speaking as a person who not only makes his money from Apple but has a deep love of the company and products. He's asking some pretty good questions that you'd never hear from most other interviewers that have access to this level of execs. That said, he still should've said "thank you" for the patches.

Apple is so lame they’re scamming people. I feel sad for all the people in the world whose privacy is being invaded. And there being falsely influenced and have to buy the product because after some time it doesn’t work. So there we can false advertising no matter how much new features you add in the end it stops working so what’s the use. Major L on Apple’s words there. Lost respect for Apple. Because it would have been like a great collection but no apple is not worth it caused your being scammed. #istandwithpeopleforallthepeoplearebeingscammed I used to be a huge fan but after I found out they scam people and invade their privacy lost all respect and don’t want to use their products anymore. Apple is like they introduce new feature but they’re also like oh you want discount your getting scammed because after sometime the apple products doesn’t work and this is what they hide from people and not say to them while advertising so basically it a Is a scam. My keyboard on iPad is lagging as I type this. I think they’re watching and controlling my movements. I feel sad for all the people who’ll face the same consequences in the future not knowing this bad feature of apple. Truth speaks louder. You guys are cool but I don’t like apple I’ve lost respect for apple because they’re scamming all of us I’m just spreading awareness on heads up on before buying any apple products. I hope you guys are all safe.

1:11:03 - this is total nonsense - what person would ever say - "please dont give me freedom to download an app somewhere else, I only want to come through you guys" 🤣 Its not the wild west on Android, 99% of people use the Play Store, but you have the OPTION to download from anywhere else, IF you want to - its generally almost always safe - but its your choice, you have control. We know what this really about, which is Apple trying to get their share of app monetization. Also running "images" (proxy security) is NOT the same as people being able to verify the source code - its just not the same. Ps John asks the rights questions. Kudos to someone that listens to people outside the bubble...even though we know what side he picks....

great talk, I think this is the best place to dive deep to apple and WWDC. to all of the 'smart ones' here trying to say that John is bad in interviews , I believe that the only reason that apple agrees to talk here is because he is talking in fun way, like a friend by not trying to attack but interesting to know how and why. apple don't really need this interviews for them. and if you pay attention even when the question are tough like the first one they answer it. I wish more this style of interviews would be more popular in more fields.
